SEND
At Glebelands, we believe every student deserves the chance to thrive — academically, socially and emotionally. We're an inclusive school where every teacher is a teacher of SEND, and where students with additional learning needs are supported to access the full curriculum, build confidence, and achieve their personal best.
Our approach
We identify and support additional needs through a four-part cycle: Assess, Plan, Do, Review. This means we look closely at how a student is progressing, put the right support in place, deliver it, and then check it's working — adjusting as we go. This sits alongside Quality First Teaching, which is the foundation of learning for every student in every lesson, whether or not they're on our SEND register.
Where a student needs more than this, we offer SEND Support, tailored to the individual — from in-class adaptations and small-group work, to more specialist, targeted interventions. For students with the most complex needs, we work closely with the Local Authority around Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

- A team of Learning Support Assistants and some specialists such as an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant.

What support looks like
Our learning support team includes trained Learning Support Assistants (LSAs), an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA), a Home School Link Worker, and specialist Catch-Up Literacy and Numeracy support. We also work closely with external specialists, including Speech and Language, Educational Psychology, and the ASD Outreach Team, so students get the right expertise, not just in-house effort.
We have two dedicated Learning Support classrooms, wheelchair access, disabled toilets, and adaptations like acoustic ceilings and a Soundfield system to support students with hearing needs.
Working with parents and carers
We know that supporting a child well means working closely with families. If you have any concerns about your child's progress, your first step is usually a conversation with their form tutor or subject teacher — or you're welcome to contact the SENCo directly. Where a student is receiving additional support, we'll keep you informed and involved at every stage, including invitations to any review meetings.
Supporting the whole child
Academic support is only part of the picture. Every student has a form tutor they see daily and a Head of Achievement overseeing their wider progress, and our pastoral team offers both universal support — available to every student, such as PSHE lessons, assemblies, and our Healthy Schools initiative — and targeted support for students who need more, including our on-site Mental Health Support Team, ELSA-led emotional support groups, and a quiet drop-in space at break and lunchtime for students who find social time overwhelming.
